Plumlov Chateau

Built in the Early-Mannerism style, the six-storey chateau looms over Podhradský Pond. Especially impressive is its inner façade, spaced with huge columns.

The chateau stands at the site of the former castle from the 13th century, the remains of which are still visible in the courtyard. The construction was ordered by Hans-Adam I, Prince of Liechtenstein, in 1680. Only one of the proposed four wings was ultimately built. In its final form, the chateau is very unusual in appearance, as its dimensions were chosen with respect to the originally projected, monumental four-wing structure.

The chateau has six above-ground storeys with two floors and three mezzanine floors. The courtyard façade connects the floors and mezzanine floors by a series of columns, topped with elaborate capitals, Tuscan on the ground floor, Ionic on the middle floor, and Composite on the highest floor.

There are three guided tours available. The basic tour focuses on the history of the castle and chateau; the tour of the cellars is oriented on the myths and legends of Plumlov and its surroundings. The third, rather intensive tour leads to the unfinished parts of the chateau, the prison on the ground floor, and to the bastion, which offers nice views. The chateau organises music and theatre events, festivals, and workshops, some of them even international.
